ABB has announced the acquisition of BrightLoop, a French innovator in advanced power electronics, to accelerate its strategy in the electrification of industrial mobility and marine propulsion.
BrightLoop is renowned for its modular and programmable power converters, which are designed for compact, efficient energy systems in demanding environments—ranging from construction and mining machinery to electric ferries and offshore vessels. Notably, BrightLoop’s high- and low-voltage DC/DC converters, originally developed for motorsport, are currently used across the entire ABB FIA Formula E grid, underscoring their reliability and efficiency in high-performance electric vehicles1.
The acquisition, expected to close in Q3 2025 pending regulatory approvals, will see ABB take an initial 93% stake in BrightLoop, with plans to acquire the remaining 7% by 2028. BrightLoop’s management team will remain integral to the company, ensuring continuity and expertise as they join ABB.
Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Paris, BrightLoop employs around 90 people and generated revenues of around €16 million in 2024. The company has experienced strong growth in recent years, driven by the increasing electrification in strategic industrial sectors. It offers a broad portfolio of high-and low-voltage DC/DC converters, designed to handle bidirectional power flows with high efficiency, compactness and scalability.
This strategic acquisition will expand ABB’s portfolio of compact, robust, and intelligent power conversion systems, supporting the transition to cleaner and smarter energy solutions in electric mobility in the industrial mobility. ABB plans to maintain and invest in BrightLoop’s engineering and manufacturing base in France, leveraging their combined expertise to drive innovation and growth in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle and marine markets.
