More Modena Racing (MMR), the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia’s official Formula Student team, has lifted the curtain on its all-new M25-LH car, destined to compete in the 2025 international Formula Student championships. The project, backed by Fondazione di Modena, signifies a bold leap in design and sustainability for the student-led racing squad.

This year, the Unimore team’s attention is centered on the ambitious MMR Hybrid initiative. Far from being a mere update, the M25-LH represents a dramatic reinvention, built from the ground up to address the technical and regulatory challenges of the new season. The car embodies the team’s evolving vision, delivering continual innovation and growth every year.

At the core of the M25-LH is a second-generation bioethanol hybrid powertrain, aiming to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. The advanced fuel, provided through a collaboration with the Department of Life Sciences, is produced from non-food biomass such as agricultural waste and plant residues. This approach ensures no competition with food crops while slashing environmental impact. The powertrain includes A 708 cc internal combustion engine running on E85 ethanol with high-compression pistons for enhanced performance and efficiency, and two electric motors integrated into the front wheels, advancing the hybrid concept first introduced last season.

The monocoque chassis, composed of carbon fiber and weighing under 18 kg, has been newly laminated to link all critical subsystems while minimizing weight.

Through meticulous development, the hybrid system is now more compact, efficient, and powerful. Standout specs include 100 hp total power output exceeding, below 220 kg overall vehicle weight and over 2200 N of downforce at 100 km/h thanks to advanced composite aerodynamic elements.

The team More Modena Racing said that these advancements represent a concerted response to the modern challenges of electrification and sustainability in motorsport.
