The first experimentation in Italy for a 100% electric autonomous shuttle bus for the transport of passengers recently started in Merano, close to downtown.
The bus, produced by the French company Navya, counts fifteen places (eleven seats and four standing) and steering wheel and driver are not present because the whole is run by an artificial intelligence assisted by seventeen satellites and sensors and cameras that allow reading the pace and detecting sudden unforeseen obstacles.
This initiative is backed by the Mentor project, funded with 1.5 million Euros by the European cooperation programme Interreg V/A Italy-Switzerland.
The Interreg V-A Italy-Switzerland Co-operation Programme 2014-2020 contributes to achieving the objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy in line with the EU Regulations and the New Swiss Regional Policy (NPR), identifying the common needs on both sides of the border.
