SEAT S.A. has reached a key milestone in the electrification of its Martorell plant with the start of pre-series battery system assembly for its upcoming 100% electric models.
The facility, still under construction, will have a production capacity of 300,000 batteries per year, employing 500 professionals and operating with fully automated processes once completed.
These batteries will power the models of the Electric Urban Car family within the Volkswagen Group’s Brand Group Core, including the CUPRA Raval and the production version of the Volkswagen ID.2all, with mass production scheduled to begin in 2026.
The total investment in the battery assembly plant amounts to €300 million, spanning an area of 64,000 m². Among its strategic infrastructure is a 600-meter-long automated bridge that will connect the battery facility to the assembly line, optimizing internal logistics and reducing the carbon footprint.
In addition to battery system assembly, SEAT has started the pre-series production of body parts using a new PXL press, capable of producing up to 4 million parts per year at 15 strokes per minute. The entire initiative is part of SEAT S.A.’s broader ambition to transform Spain into a European hub for electric vehicles, supported by a total investment of €10 billion through the Future: Fast Forward project.
“As with battery systems, pre-series production of Electric Urban Cars in Martorell allows
SEAT S.A. to prepare and adapt the facilities, processes and products for series production. This integrated process covers all stages of the production cycle: from the initial pressing in the press, through bodywork and painting, to final assembly and overhaul.
The goal is to optimize each stage and ensure the successful start-up of series production starting in 2026″, said the company.
