GROB Italy has announced the appointment of Marcello Ferro as the new Head of Sales for its Electric Motor Division. The Italian branch of the German industrial group—founded in 1926 in Mindelheim, Bavaria, by Ernst Grob—is reinforcing its commercial leadership at a strategic time for the electrification market.

A 36-year-old engineer from Naples, Ferro holds a master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering and a specialization in Additive Manufacturing from the Polytechnic University of Turin. Over the past six years at GROB, he served as Program Manager, leading numerous strategic projects and coordinating cross-functional teams across Europe. Prior to joining GROB, he oversaw Asia-Pacific market development for Famar and contributed to research and development in the machine tools sector at Comau.

Expanding green technologies and market presence
In his new role of Head of Sales, Ferro will be responsible for strengthening the synergy between GROB Italy’s development team and the parent company in Germany. His mandate includes translating the company’s technological innovation into new business opportunities, expanding GROB’s footprint in emerging markets, and identifying new application sectors for electric motors.

Ferro emphasized that the current downturn in the electric powertrain sector—driven by the absence of a dominant technology and uncertain strategic directions among market leaders—presents, in fact, a fertile ground for innovation. “Our goal is to set new routes by leveraging experience and young talent, responding to market challenges with intelligence, initiative, and a clear, forward-looking strategy,” he stated.

The new commercial direction is part of GROB’s wider international expansion plan, which aims to position technical expertise as a primary competitive driver. Continuous training at the company’s German headquarters in Mindelheim will play a key role in ensuring close alignment between market needs and the latest R&D developments.

The company’s technological portfolio includes advanced winding lines for distributed stators, coil insertion systems, and segmented radial and axial flux motors. It also produces assembly lines for both wound and permanent magnet rotors. Among its patented innovations, the Antitwist stator winding system stands out for enabling higher copper fill factors, leading to improved motor efficiency compared to conventional solutions.

A competence hub for light electric mobility
At its facility in Pianezza, near Turin, GROB Italy serves as the group’s competence center for light electric mobility. The subsidiary specializes in electric powertrains ranging from 4 to 40 kW, designed for two- and three-wheel vehicles, electric microcars, agricultural machines, e-boats, and recreational vehicles such as golf carts, karts, and jet skis.

GROB’s unique strength lies in its capability to deliver complete technologies covering the entire manufacturing process of electric motors—from feasibility studies to project implementation—with different levels of automation. Solutions range from stand-alone machines to fully customized production lines, catering to various sectors including automotive and industrial applications.
