Marelli has introduced anew thermal management hardware designed to improve efficiency and packaging in electrified powertrains, with a focus on e‑axles and battery systems. The e‑Transmission Cooling Pump delivers oil exactly when and where it is needed in electric and dedicated hybrid transmissions, instead of running continuously as in conventional systems, with a reported 30 W power saving and about 40% efficiency improvement versus reference solutions. The pump is available in 12 V and 48 V variants and built on a modular platform to fit different transmission types, from hybrid drives to fully electric axles. On the thermal side, Marelli is also presenting three compact aluminum solutions aimed at reducing size and weight compared with current systems: a High‑Performance Chiller to control battery temperature in electrified vehicles, an eAxle Oil Cooler with an internally optimised geometry that avoids stagnation zones in the coolant flow, and a full‑aluminum radiator for low‑temperature battery cooling already in series production with several EV manufacturers. Using aluminum helps cut mass and facilitates recycling, while the optimised coolant paths are intended to support higher power density and durability in traction applications. For e‑motor and e‑axle designers, these components illustrate how targeted improvements in cooling hardware and pump control can unlock system‑level gains in efficiency, lifetime and packaging, supporting more compact drive units and faster‑charging battery packs without adding complexity to the thermal architecture.
