Irizar Group has strengthened its electric mobility offering with two new models — the Irizar i3 Normal Floor (Class II) and the Irizar ie bus (Class I). Fully electric and part of the brand’s Efficient range, these vehicles embody Irizar’s continuous drive to improve performance, safety, and sustainability in passenger transport.

Following the launch of the Low Entry version in late 2024, the new Irizar i3 Normal Floor completes the company’s 100% electric intercity lineup. Designed with a fully integral structure, this model focuses on optimising space, weight, and energy use to enhance operational efficiency and passenger comfort.

With a redesigned, sharper exterior, the i3 Normal Floor increases luggage capacity to over 7 m³ while reducing vehicle weight by approximately 1,000 kg through the introduction of lighter and more rigid materials. This substantial reduction directly contributes to an extended range of up to 450 km on a single charge — making it suitable for a full day of intercity operations.

The model’s modular design shares most exterior elements and components with the Irizar i3 Low Entry, allowing for simplified maintenance, a reduced stock of spare parts, and improved lifecycle sustainability. Safety is another key focus: the new i3 complies with GSR2 and R29 crash regulations, integrating advanced driver assistance technologies such as radar and camera-based systems. Additionally, Irizar has implemented cybersecurity (R155) and software update management (R156) frameworks to ensure secure and reliable operation throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.

From an electrical architecture standpoint, the control and fuse units are positioned in the driver’s area for better accessibility and safer maintenance interventions. Integrated diagnostics and predictive maintenance features further increase uptime and operational reliability.

Enhanced energy performance

Irizar e-mobility also unveiled the new generation of its Class I electric bus — the Irizar ie bus — which incorporates significant structural and energy efficiency improvements. By introducing a new lightweight design concept, the vehicle achieves a 1,000 kg reduction in mass, improving passenger capacity by 5% and enhancing dynamic performance.

The latest ie bus offers a markedly improved passenger experience thanks to wider doors and aisles, better interior luminosity, and quieter operation. A new compact traction motor, next-generation battery pack, and upgraded thermal management system deliver a 10% reduction in energy consumption compared to the previous model.

For drivers, independent climate control and an optimised cabin layout enhance comfort and safety. The vehicle also features a higher proportion of recycled materials — double that of the former platform — underlining Irizar’s environmental commitment.
