SkyDrive Inc, a Japanese developer of compact eVTOL aircraft, has accelerated its SKYDRIVE SD‑05 to 100 km/h in high‑speed tests, a benchmark speed for short‑hop inter‑urban air mobility. The campaign confirmed stability, controllability and maneuverability at higher speeds, as well as the performance of propulsion, flight control and onboard avionics systems. The data collected allows engineers to validate the aircraft’s dynamic behaviour against prior design simulations and analyses, reducing uncertainty on the path to type certification and planned commercial entry into service in 2028. For SkyDrive’s multicopter concept, which uses 12 independent rotors without fixed wings, demonstrating safe, stable high‑speed forward flight is a key proof point that existing aviation data cannot provide.
